A pause to create...

Understanding Clay

Working with clay begins with understanding how it responds. The pressure of your hands, the amount of water, the speed of the wheel, and even small changes in movement all influence the final form. Developing these observations is as important as learning the techniques themselves.

The workshops introduce the fundamentals of pottery through wheel throwing, hand-building, coiling, slab work, trimming, and surface treatment techniques such as burnishing, carving, texturing, slips, and underglaze decoration. Each technique is taught step by step, helping participants understand not only how a form is made, but why each stage of the process matters.

Our workshops are conducted for individuals, schools, colleges, organisations, and creative groups across India. Every session is planned around the participants, their learning goals, and the time available, allowing the programme to be adapted to different ages, experience levels, and group sizes. All workshops are beginner-friendly and include clay, tools, and essential materials. Sessions are scheduled by appointment, and finished pieces are fired and prepared for collection where applicable.

Pottery Workshops

3 to 15 Days

Designed for those looking to deepen their experience with clay, this programme builds on the fundamentals through guided practice and repetition. Areas of study include wheel throwing, trimming, hand-building techniques, mug making, handle attachment, surface decoration, and planning functional pottery.

By the end of the programme, participants can expect to strengthen their technical skills, gain confidence in the studio, and develop a more thoughtful approach to working with clay.

Experience pottery

1 Day

Ideal for beginners, this one-day workshop is designed to introduce the fundamentals of pottery in a relaxed and engaging setting. Participants learn the basics of clay preparation, wheel throwing, and the early stages of forming simple shapes while gaining an understanding of how clay responds throughout the making process.

By the end of the workshop, participants can expect to leave with their first hands-on experience of pottery and a deeper appreciation for the craft.

Develop a practice

1 Month or Longer

Designed for dedicated learners who wish to build a long-term practice in ceramics, this programme offers the time and continuity needed to develop both technical skills and confidence in the studio. Areas of study may include different clay bodies, functional and sculptural forms, clay preparation, wild clay processing, surface finishing, material testing, and more depending on individual interests.

By the end of the programme, participants can expect to have developed a deeper understanding of ceramics while gradually discovering their own approach to working with clay through sustained studio practice.
